SUCCESS!! LLLRC's Big Latch On Rocked!

Hi, Everyone~

This morning's Big Latch On was a fun time for all! There were 11 mothers in attendance. Seven were counted during the Latch On. Those numbers were e-mailed to biglatchon.org. The next step is to mail the evaluation form, signed Counters' sheets, signed participants' sheet, photos, and the press release in The News Review to the appropriate persons by the 13 Aug 2011.

I believe a preliminary count will come out this evening with the final count coming out after the 13 Aug reporting date. I'll keep you posted. The number we were trying to surpass is from 2010 and is just over 9,800 mothers breastfeeding simultaneously.

Thanks to each of the seven mothers who took time out of their busy mothering schedules to come and support LLLRC's celebration for World Breastfeeding Week. A special thanks to Maria, Charissa, and Andrea for being our "official counters" as well as Regan for taking photos of the event!!

REMINDER::The Big Latch On is Tomorrow

A reminder to all who plan to participate in the BIG LATCH ON in Ridgecrest:

Hi, Everyone~

Several of you have asked for a reminder for tomorrow's event, and it's just easier to send it to my whole list! If you're considered joining us, please do! No pre-registration is needed. Just show up no later than 10:00.

REMINDER!! Tomorrow morning (Saturday, 6 Aug) at 10:00 a.m. is the BIG LATCH ON at Pizza Factory. The door to Pizza Factory is supposed to be open, but if it is not, go through Beanster's! See you at 10:00 or before!!

LOCATION for The Big Latch On, Sat., Aug. 6

WHAT: The BIG LATCH ON

WHO: Breastfeeding Moms all over the US and world going for a new record for the most mothers breastfeeding simultaneously

WHERE: Pizza Factory's Glass Room, 1601 N. Triangle Drive, Ridgecrest

WHEN: Saturday, August 6th

TIME: Mothers arrive by 10:00 a.m. to officially register for the event

BIG LATCH ON: Is at precisely 10:30 a.m. local time. All participating mothers will latch their babies and will be among the total count as long as the baby is on the breast from 10:3-10:31.

We have non-breastfeeding Moms who will be the official counters. We have others who will assist mothers with registration. My thanks to each of you!

The BIG LATCH ON::UPDATE

Hi, Everyone~

Thanks to the interest we've gotten after my last update, we now have more than the minimum number of breastfeeding dyads (mom&babe) to participate in the BIG LATCH ON, on Saturday, August 6th at 10:30 a.m. Thanks so much to all who have signed up so far!!

LLL of Ridgecrest is now registered for the national event and all moms&babes who participate will be registered and added to the total count of simultaneously breastfeeding mothers! Our goal is to break the world record, so please come help out!

From this point on, we will welcome any and all breastfeeding mothers and their nurslings for our event. You're welcome to let us know you'll be joining us (by commenting here or emailing LLLRidgecrest@ gmail.com), OR you may just show up by 10:00 a.m.

NOW~~you're no doubt wondering WHERE?? That info will be forthcoming soon. We are still in the process of making arrangements.

Thanks once again for all support you give to LLLRC!

World Breastfeeding Week Celebration: The BIG LATCH ON

Hi, Everyone~

During the first week of August (1st-7th) every year, World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated by mothers all over the globe with a wide-variety of events and fund-raisers.

This year in Ridgecrest we would like to participate in the National event called the Big Latch On!

In order to be a registered participant and have our breastfeeding moms counted in the national total, we need a minimum of two breastfeeding dyads (mother & baby) breastfeeding in one location at 10:30 a.m. our time on Saturday, August 6th. (Please arrive at 10:00 a.m. to register.) All participating mothers will be registered at the location, and a monitor will count each mother who latches her baby on for one minute at 10:30 a.m.

If you would like to participate in the BIG LATCH ON in Ridgecrest, please let me know by NOON, Friday, 22 July 2011. You may tell me by commenting here at the blog OR

When I know we have a group of mothers who want to participate, I will arrange for our venue, update the blog, and be sure you're all aware of the details.

LA LECHE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL (LLLI)

LLLI is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization—recognized as an authority on breastfeeding around the world—founded by seven amazing women in 1956 in Franklin Park, Illinois, USA. Through a network of accredited volunteer Leaders, LLLI currently has a presence in sixty-five countries around the world. Leaders have breastfed their own babies and been specially trained to help mothers with breastfeeding. They keep up-to-date through continued training and studies of the most current medical research on breastfeeding. Although some Leaders make home and hospital visits, support is primarily given through monthly meetings, telephone help, and online through email and the LLLI Web site at http://www.llli.org/ .

La Leche League gives information, support, encouragement, and education to all mothers who want to breastfeed their babies. While complementing the care of the physician and other health care professionals, it recognizes the unique importance of one mother helping another to perceive the needs of her child and to learn the best means of fulfilling those needs.

LLL believes that breastfeeding, with its many important physical and psychological advantages, is best for baby and mother and is the ideal way to initiate good parent-child relationships. The loving help and support of the father enables the mother to focus on mothering so that together the parents develop close relationships which strengthen the family and thus the whole fabric of society.

LLL further believes that mothering through breastfeeding deepens a mother's understanding and acceptance of the responsibilities and rewards of her special role in the family. As a woman grows in mothering she grows as a human being, and every other role she may fill in her lifetime is enriched by the insights and humanity she brings to it from her experiences as a mother.
